PPF richtig reinigen und schützen – So bleibt Ihr Lackschutzfilm makellos

How to properly clean and protect PPF – This is how your paint protection film stays flawless

A Paint Protection Film (PPF) is the first line of defense against stone chips, insect residues, UV rays, and environmental influences – and all of that while remaining completely invisible. But even this protective layer is not maintenance-free. To stay clear, durable, and visually appealing over time, it requires proper care. Whether you're working with high-gloss films or refining matte finishes – we’ll show you how to clean and protect PPF and which SWISSVAX products are specifically designed for it.

General PPF cleaning – gentle but thorough

PPF is more robust than paint but not indestructible. Improper cleaning can dull, discolor, or even damage the surface. Therefore:

  • Use only pH-neutral cleaning products without aggressive solvents or alcohol.
  • Apply the two-bucket method and a high-quality wash mitt to avoid scratches.
  • Always work in the shade and avoid direct sunlight when washing.
  • Rinse thoroughly with plenty of water and dry the surface with a clean, soft microfiber towel like the SWISSVAX Ultra-Dry Towel.

For regular care of both film types, we recommend gentle cleaning with SWISSVAX Car Bath (for glossy PPF) or SWISSVAX Car Bath Opaque (for matte PPF). Both shampoos are pH-neutral and specially formulated for the needs of wrapped surfaces.

Caring for glossy PPF – maintaining clarity and gloss

Glossy paint protection films can be treated like regular paint – including light polishing to remove fine scratches or contamination. Afterwards, an appropriate sealant should be applied to enhance gloss and protect the surface.

  • For polishing, we recommend SWISSVAX Cleaner Fluids – a mild abrasive polish suitable for glossy PPF.
  • Then SWISSVAX PPF Wax protects the film long-term from UV radiation, water spots, and dirt adhesion.
  • For quick touch-ups, SWISSVAX Quick Finish is ideal, as it cleans without residue and leaves a streak-free shine.

Caring for matte PPF – preserve the character, protect the texture

Matte films are more sensitive to improper care. Polishes and certain cleaners can permanently alter the finish by adding unwanted gloss. Therefore, a specialized care system is essential for matte PPF.

What to avoid with PPF

Whether matte or glossy – certain mistakes can quickly damage PPF:

  • Avoid aggressive cleaners containing solvents or high alcohol content.
  • Do not use high-pressure washers too close to the edges of the film.
  • Never use polish on matte PPF – it will ruin the matte finish.

PPF requires care – with the right know-how and the right products

Those who invest in high-quality paint protection should not compromise on maintenance. SWISSVAX offers the right products for every PPF surface – whether for cleaning, polishing, or protection. Only then will your protective film stay clear, resilient, and visually flawless over time.
